Would you believe that out of all the things I've done, places I've visited, goals I've accomplished and foods I've eaten I've NEVER had home made ice cream???
Oh, you should definitely try it! Your BG would love it!
Growing up we camped a lot as a family, we even had a seasonal lot at a Yogi Bear campground for years (we sold the trailer when my mom died).
I have such wonderful memories of my mom bringing out the HAND CRANK ice cream maker. She would prepare the mixture on the stove, add the salt and ice around the metal tube and we would crank, crank, crank! Everyone who wanted to eat ice cream had to take turns cranking or they wouldn't get any. It seemed like it took hours, although, I am sure that isn't true.
Anyway, it was wonderful ice cream and wonderful memories. I've thought about buying an ice cream maker of some sort for my brother and his family for Christmas...he has 3 little ones under 7 and I think they would all love it!
What a GREAT Christmas gift idea. I wonder if BG would wear me out about it though. She's addicted to ice cream and I can see her asking if we could make some EVERY. DAY. Must be from in utero. I had a bowl every single day I was pg with her. And she's a purist like me...just *danilla* please. Still, she would love it and I would love that.
When you're finished with your research, be sure to post your model decision.
I've been wondering...how's the house matter going?
Maybe it could be used only on "Yes Day" or on special occasions?
I will definitely keep you posted on the brand I decide on!
Nothing new on the house...please keep this in your prayers, if you don't mind! We had a realtor tour this past week and 5 realtors came. Hopefully they will bring some actual clients through. It's really getting close to the deadline for needing to have our house sold. Blah!
I've got a Rival one from Wal-Mart - it's a big pink bucket (where the ice goes), with a round metal container inside (that spins in the ice/salt and holds the stuff that makes your ice cream - I think it's makes about as much as one of those Edy's round containers at the store - Geof said he thinks it's about 1/2 that).
It's nothing fancy, but it works well... it's just REALLY loud! We usually get it all together and then plug it in in the garage or basement. But it makes good ice cream!
I've heard really good things about the first one on your list, though... if that's the one where you can freeze the inner core in the freezer and then plug it in for the actual ice cream making.
Now I want to make ice cream =) We did it on Christmas day once - and we didn't have ice, so we kept going out to get snow =)
